We offer Guided Snorkelling (no experience needed), Discover Scuba Diving (one guided reef dive under direct instructor supervision, max 12m depth), and the PADI Open Water Course for those who want a full certification.

What should I bring on the day?

We provide all diving and snorkelling equipment. Just bring your swimsuit, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and a sense of adventure! If you have prescription lenses, let us know in advance and we can arrange suitable masks.

What is the minimum age for diving at Mission Beach Dive?

For snorkelling, there is no minimum age — it's suitable for the whole family. For Discover Scuba Diving, participants must be at least 10 years old. For PADI Open Water certification, the minimum age is 10 for Junior Open Water and 15 for the full Open Water certification. All minors require parental or guardian consent.

What is your cancellation policy?

We offer free cancellation up to 48 hours before your scheduled trip. Cancellations within 48 hours may incur a fee. Weather-related cancellations are always fully refundable — safety comes first.

How long is a typical day trip?

A typical reef day trip runs approximately 6–8 hours including travel time, briefings, and time on the reef. You'll generally get two reef site visits with time for snorkelling and/or diving at each. We depart in the morning and return in the afternoon.

Are there any medical or health requirements for scuba diving?

All scuba diving and snorkelling participants must complete a Diving/Snorkelling Medical Questionnaire and meet fitness requirements. Certain medical conditions — including asthma, heart conditions, ear/sinus infections, recent surgeries, epilepsy, diabetes, and pregnancy — may require written clearance from a qualified Diving Medical Practitioner before participating.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer to dive or snorkel?

You should be comfortable in the water. For snorkelling, flotation devices are available. For Discover Scuba Diving, your Instructor is with you the entire time under direct supervision. For certification courses, you'll need to demonstrate basic water comfort as part of the course requirements.

We maintain small group sizes with low diver-to-guide ratios, provide thorough briefings before every activity, carry full first aid and emergency oxygen on board, and our crew hold current first aid and rescue qualifications. We also select reef sites based on daily weather and sea conditions.

Can I dive if I'm on medication?

It depends on the medication. You'll declare any medications on the Diver Medical Questionnaire, and if there's any concern, we'll ask you to get a doctor's clearance. Common considerations include blood pressure medication, anti-anxiety medication, and motion sickness tablets. When in doubt, check with your GP first.

Where do you go on the Great Barrier Reef?

We operate to a selection of Outer Great Barrier Reef sites including Beaver Reef and Taylor Reef, both Marine Park Green Zones. The specific site on any given day is chosen based on weather, visibility and sea conditions to give you the best possible experience.

What marine life will I see on the reef?

The Great Barrier Reef off Mission Beach is home to vibrant hard and soft coral formations, reef sharks, sea turtles, dolphins, and an incredible diversity of tropical fish. Depending on the season, you may also encounter Manta Rays or migrating Humpback Whales (July–September).

Discover Scuba Diving is a one-day introductory experience — no certification required. You'll receive a briefing, equipment familiarisation, and one guided reef dive to a maximum of 12m. The PADI Open Water Course is a full 3–4 day certification program that qualifies you to dive independently to 18 metres worldwide. Once certified, your qualification never expires.
