All depart from Mission Beach.

Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours by boat from Mission Beach to outer reef sites Beaver Reef and Taylor Reef. Mission Beach is one of the closest mainland departure points to the Outer Great Barrier Reef in Queensland — significantly closer than Cairns or Port Douglas.

What is included in a reef day trip with Mission Beach Dive?

All reef trips include return boat transfers, all diving or snorkelling equipment, professional PADI guides and instructors, safety briefings, morning tea, lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Nothing extra to pay on the boat.

Coral spawning is the Great Barrier Reef's annual mass reproduction event, where billions of coral egg-sperm bundles are released simultaneously into the ocean. Near Mission Beach it typically occurs in November or December, a few nights after the full moon. Mission Beach Dive runs special guided night dives during the event.

Full Moon Night Dives are monthly night diving experiences conducted on the Great Barrier Reef around the full moon from Mission Beach. Nocturnal creatures emerge, corals fluoresce, and the reef transforms in the moonlight. Available to certified divers, subject to weather and sea conditions.

Can you see cassowaries at Mission Beach?

Yes. Mission Beach is one of the world's best locations to spot the endangered Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius) in the wild. Sightings are common along beaches, rainforest edges and the Lacey Creek walking track. The region is named the Cassowary Coast in their honour. Fewer than 4,000 cassowaries remain in Queensland — they are listed as Vulnerable under Australian federal law.

Mission Beach sits on the traditional Country of the Djiru people, the Aboriginal Traditional Custodians of this coastal rainforest region. The Djiru have inhabited these lands and waters for thousands of years.
